About Mr.Mcbryde

Mr.Callum McBryde specialises in all the conditions that cause hip pain. Callum graduated from Manchester medical school where he developed his interest in surgery. He moved on to Birmingham to train under renowned surgeons such as Mr O’Hara, Mr McMinn and Mr Treacy. Early in his surgical career CallumMcBryde was awarded the esteemed RH Sage Award for the best surgical trainee of the year. Closely involved in the growing interest in the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing he developed his own keen interest in the challenging area of young and active patients with arthritis of the hip.

This led to Mr McBryde being awarded the first ever large research bursary from the British Hip Society leading to a number of landmark research papers to be published in the field. He also was invited to lecture at international meetings in North America, Europe and Australia sharing the results of the research he completed with many other orthopaedic surgeons.

Skills Mr McBryde is proficient in all the clinical and surgical aspects of the specialist field of young adult hip surgery. This includes femoral and acetabular osteotomies (both periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and triple pelvic osteotomy), hip arthroscopy, resurfacing, total hip replacement and revision hip replacement.

Training Mr McBryde completed his general surgical and specialist orthopaedic training in Birmingham. During this time he developed his specialist interest in conditions affecting the young adult hip. He was awarded the first ever McMinn scholarship awarded by the British Hip Society which allowed him to complete a higher degree in research into the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing.

On completion of his training he then spent a year of fellowship in Sydney with one of the world leaders in hip surgery in young patients, Dr Solomon. Mr McBryde was successfully awarded the European Travelling fellowship by the British Hip Society and spent attachments with other world leaders in young adult hip surgery including Dr O’Donnell (Melbourne, Australia), Dr Young (Melbourne, Australia), Dr Beck (Lucerne, Switzerland), Dr Leunig (Zurich, Switzerland). Mr McBryde also worked as a consultant in Hip Preservation alongside Professor Griffin, a world leader in hip arthroscopy techniques, before returning to take up a consultant practice in Birmingham with an exclusive practice in young adult hip surgery.
